CHILDREN’S MINISTRY DIRECTOR
Part-Time Paid Position
 
Holy Communion Church, located in Bend, Oregon is a warm and welcoming spiritual home for a variety of Christians throughout Central Oregon. We are a community who believes in celebrating our faith in the Catholic tradition through the Mass and the Eucharist.
 
We are a multi-generational church, and we honor the youngest and the most senior among us. We seek to provide every member, at all stages of life, with opportunities to learn, grow and serve.
 
Our vibrant church is seeking an individual who will be responsible for reaching out, caring for and teaching spiritual formation to children ages Kindergarten through 5th grade. We expect the candidate to have a personal relationship with Christ, and a big heart for Youth.
 
This individual should possess good communication skills, an ability to think outside of the box, be able to work as both a team player and leader and have efficient organizational skills. This part-time position will be 10 hours/week, including Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.
 
We are looking for this person to elevate HCC’s Children’s Ministry with an engaging program for the youngest in our church community. In addition to owning this educational program, we would like to develop a childcare program for the youngest members, and this person would oversee those efforts as well.
 
 
 
Position Summary:
The HCC Children’s Ministry Director is responsible for the care, growth, and Biblical education of the youngest members of our church from infants through 5th grade. They are to ensure professional, safe, and effective operation of our children’s program including recruitment and training of additional staff as the program grows.
 
This person will teach lessons that will keep children not only interested in coming to church but develop a lifelong understanding of what it means to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
 
This person will work closely with Priests, administrative staff, and volunteers to help the youth in the congregation develop their faith.
 
 
 
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Possess a vibrant, personal Christian faith and a willingness to work within the theology of the Evangelical Catholic Church
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills accompanied by a positive attitude with young students in the church
  • Great computer and creativity skills in designing new and entertaining ways for students to learn about life in Christ and faith values
  • Ability to deal with and relate to young people
  • Excellent organization and supervision skills (group management skills)
  • Evident relationship and belief in God and the church
 
 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Lead our Kids Church program (Toddlers to Tweens) as well as lead Religious Education small groups (4th– 5thgrade) on Wednesday evenings
  • Provide childcare at Mass for the youngest members of our community
  • Research, prepare and, if necessary, create Religious Education materials
  • Organize classroom, materials, and lessons to maximize cleanliness, safety, and effectiveness of a Biblical youth ministry
  • Coordinate annual First Reconciliation and First Communion classes in consultation with the pastoral leadership of the church
  • Provide oversight and leadership at youth ministry gatherings
  • Prayerfully and joyfully influence what the children’s ministry looks like here at HCC
  • Organize and participate in annual youth retreats, trips, and camps
  • Identify, recruit and train Kids Church and Childcare team members as the program grows
  • Keep records of expenditures, budget, and attendance
  • Work with church staff to ensure success of the program
 
 
 
Minimum Requirements:
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Willingness and aptitude for working with children from infants to 5th grade
  • Personal, moral, and spiritual values that are in line with a Christian ministry role
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Dependable personal transportation
  • High School Education or Equivalent
 
 
 
Hours and Compensation:
  • Starting Pay: $25.00/hour
  • Weekly: 10 hours per week
  • Sundays: 8:30AM-12:30PM
  • Wednesdays: 6:00PM-8:30PM
